Reports indicate that thew new Apple iPhone will include a 3.2mp camera, as well as the ability to record video. While no official word of a new iPhone is to be released, we can assume that we can see a refreshed model sometime in July, following a trend in Apple’s product lineups.
Some people are saying that Apple is adding a revamped camera for their new iPhone model, which is expected to be revealed at WWDC09 next month. So far there are no confirmed reports, but it is very likely we will see some new additions to a new iPhone model replacing the current iPhone 3G.
Apple is known best for releasing a great product, only to bring out a slightly newer version a year later, with just enough changes to incite customers to buy a new one. We’ve heard rumors that this new iPhone will have a faster 3G connection, better camera with video recording, slightly slimmer profile, and stereo speakers.
Camera
The iPhone has a 2.0mp camera, which is a standard among most mobile phones, especially smart phones. Bumping the iPhone up to a 3.2mp sensor would bring the iPhone in line with the new BlackBerry 8900. Video recording however, is a feature that almost every other phone is capable. It seems Apple will be releasing the new device as the only one capable of video recording, forcing most customers to upgrade their current device to the new one.
3G+
While HSPA is still a new technology for North Americans, Apple might be trying to push HSUPA along with a faster, 7.2Mb download speed, compared to the current 3.6Mb. A faster download speed will allow for quicker load times for any data services available on the iPhone. So far most 3G phones are only 3.6Mb, however some phones like the LG TU915 Vu has the faster download abilities, making it better for internet and mobile TV.
A much faster upload speed for the iPhone will allow users to send large email files, upload video and pictures, as well as tweet much quicker. While I’m not complaining about the 3G speeds on my iPhone, I would prefer a faster device if I plan on tethering, rather than using my Rogers RocketStick.
With a month left until WWDC, we can only hope for good things to come for the iPhone. I admit I will be one of the first ones to upgrade to a newer device, as I have been through 6 of them already. Another high expectation for June, is the return of Steve Jobs. Jobs has been on medical leave for 4 months now, staying out of the media spotlight. While it’s a long shot to expect him to make an appearance at the World Wide Developers Conference, it would be nice to see him up and about.
