It would appear that the social network Facebook has pulled their Facebook app off the BlackBerry App World. In an attempt to re-install the program last night, I found that there is no Facebook app available on App World, and no reason that I can find for it being pulled. Others have also encountered the same problem.
BlackBerry OS 5.0 Leak
Last night I found the leaked version of the new BlackBerry OS, version 5.0.0.90. While I have only been testing it for a few hours, I’ve noticed some nice new additions, but along with most updates, there are complications. Since this is a beta, I must advise you all that the following review is that of my personal experience with a beta release of the software. It is in no way to represent the final release version, as any changes to the software can be made after this review was written.
The Now Network
Over the last few months we’ve seen some new TV ads from the American cellular phone company, Sprint, informing us about their dependable 3G networks. While I haven’t had a chance to test the network out myself, as I live in Canada, but Sprint has been very aggressive with their marketing. More recently, they are claiming to have the first 4G wireless network.
What Mobile Me Lacks
While the $99 a year Email service from Apple gives customers some nice features, there are still a few items that could be added to make the service a little better. These ideas came to me today around the same time, shedding new light on the mobile service.
Microsoft Windows 7 Build 7000
Like most of the big guys, I was able to get my hands on a copy of Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x32 build 7000. I felt the best way to test this build without losing a whole lot would be to install it on my MacBook, so I can deformat the HDD after use. So far I am not impressed with this new OS at all.
Now I understand my version is locked out compared to what some users get to play with, and definately nothing close to what the final version will look like. However first impressions are the most important when it comes to new software, and especially true for Microsoft, considering Vista’s bad rap came from its first impression on the world.
So far W7 looks too much like Vista, right from installation where the menu and process was identical. Login screen is similar, and even the environment is the same, same icons, same stupid control panel, its more of a theme pack then a new OS. This I would normally prefer when upgrading from one OS to another, keeping thing similar means the transition is much easier.
Anyway, my tests so far have only contained basic stuff. Im waiting to try out file transfers which is apperently super fast now. My boot sequence was good, however I’m not sure how well it really works on this PC, considering I don’t have Vista to compare it to.
3.2MP Camera for New iPhone
Reports indicate that thew new Apple iPhone will include a 3.2mp camera, as well as the ability to record video. While no official word of a new iPhone is to be released, we can assume that we can see a refreshed model sometime in July, following a trend in Apple’s product lineups.

iPhone 3.0 SDK Progress
Not long ago, Apple released the new iPhone OS 3.0 SDK for developer use. Users with valid ADC accounts have been able to test out the new SDK, along with the up coming iPhone OS 3.0 for iPhone and iPod Touch devices. With the new SDK, we get access to new over a 1,000 new APIs, including Push Notifications, Turn by Turn GPS, and networked Bluetooth connections. As a new developer to the iPhone, I can’t determine the differences between the new and the old, but I do know what I’ve seen so far is good stuff.
Apple Store: Square One
A new Apple Store has been discovered today by Miimo. A Mississauga location at Square One has been confirmed as the site of Apple’s newest store in the GTA. The much anticipated store is currently being renovated, and staff are being hired. We hope to see a grand opening for the late spring.
Today it was announced that Bell Canada (TXS:BCE) had purchased Canadian electronic retailer, InterTAN Canada Ltd. Until 2005, InterTAN operated over 900 retail stores nation wide under the RadioShack name. Circuit City (De-listed:CC) had purchased InterTAN, and renamed all RadioShack stores as The Source by Circuit City. Due to a worsening economy, and the financial collapse of Circuit City, InterTAN has been looking for a new buyer since November.
